Peter Demeter Biography
The Germans were bombed! Perhaps, for all the years of the war, it was the most fun evening. Time passed, happy days have come. Our army drove the Nazis further and further from the Russian land. At the same time, together with work and performances, we restored the connection with relatives. We learned that Nina’s sister was looking for the Roman Theater, and she was hired by an artist.
It has been a year now. The war was still going on, but life in Moscow almost normalized. My husband and I, having contacted brother Peter, were waiting for a call to work in Moscow. During the war, Bolshevo has changed a lot. The trees were cut on fuel, for the same reason, there were no fences. Small huts buried in the snow. Without Nina, we would hardly have found a way to our mother.
Praskovya’s mother Nikitichna already knew that we were about to come. She was delighted with our arrival and lamented how bad and not in the winter we are easily dressed. All the war years, my mother was left in Bolshevo alone. None of the children persuaded her to leave. Where will he look for me? She had many icons, and she prayed to God with tears that Stalin defeated Hitler.
Here I must say that the gypsies never ceased to believe in God. Even in those days when the churches were broken, the gypsies were married and baptized children. Crying women often came to mom - unfortunate mothers and wives who went to the war of men. Not only neighbors came. It happened that women from Moscow and other cities appeared. Aunt Pasha, honey! Throw out the cards, look, is my husband alive?
Of course, alive! Every woman who came to her mother left with the best mood than she came, and in gratitude left her mother a piece of bread, or a couple of potatoes. Mom immediately gave part of this food to those in need. When the Germans approached Moscow, women came to their mother with a desperate cry: “Aunt Pasha! Throw out the card. What will happen? I will not! Mom laid out the cards and sees that the cards have fallen good - only the worms and tambourines.
A little crosses and not a single pitch. So, the Germans will soon be driven from our earth. We were hired at the Roman Theater. Dulkevich was taken to the theater by a chormister with a salary of rubles, and my ballet artist for rubles. It was big money, or small, we did not think then, but were happy. Sister Nina and the older brother Peter and his wife Maria already worked in the theater.
In the theater we were accepted very cordially. The long -awaited Victory Day has come - May 9. Moscow shone in fireworks. Even strangers hugged each other. We performed on Red Square all day. We held umbrellas over the heads of guitarists on the stage so that the strings would not soak. Tropaks and lents were beaten right in the puddles. I really love my gypsy theater.
In addition to the theater, our gypsies, unfortunately, have nothing, but we, pop artists were boring to work in a drama theater. In July, the theater went on tour to Leningrad, where Dulkevich and I stayed. Again Leningrad! Leningrad was not destroyed by the Germans, but on many houses there were traces of shelling. A large gray house on Marat Street was also interrupted, where we once lived, and now strangers lived there.
It was difficult to start. In the end, we created our gypsy ensemble with Dulkevich. The artistic life on wheels began again. For months and years, we rang everywhere. The program of our ensemble sounded good. We had a three -headed singing in the choir. And the audience and authorities from Langoserda were satisfied. The press wrote good reviews. Suddenly, an order appeared to all artists to reconsider the repertoire.
Romances were forbidden to sing. They said that only patriotic songs are needed. By this time, my brother Peter had already written several plays of a classic character. We took Peter into circulation -: “Write for gypsies! Peter sent us a solemn melody from Moscow, to which Dulkevich wrote words. We called this song “New Way”: the party calls us to victory. Our power is strong and growing.
Our people follow the party. She leads us to communism. The time was like that. They broke the churches, secretly baptized children, newlyweds in wedding dresses after the registry office had to go to the Lenin monument. My brother then sent a lot of songs: about Lenin, about the party, about the Komsomol, about the partisan, about the tractor driver. But the composer Peter Stepanovich Demeter wrote not only the so -called patriotic works.
The brother turned out a lot of lyrical, dance and comic songs that were so good that the people immediately accepted them - and soon sincerely considered part of the folklore.
Is there a higher praise for the composer? We worked a lot, with rapture, not sparing strength and, as it turned out health. My husband fell ill in the year. The doctor recognized the inflammation of the lungs, and two days later he died in the hospital from a heart attack. He was only sixty. Brother Peter helped me move to the capital. Here I was born. I did not live alone for long.
Soon she gathered with her mother and sister Nina. Once in Moscow, I decided to completely change the lifestyle. I bought a piano. Even during the life of Dulkevich, I tried to make out Rakhmaninov’s prelude to Diez, but I never had to learn as a keepsake. I really liked Beethoven's Lunar Sonata and the dying Noktyurn Chopin.I told myself: “Now I will try to do it!
I was afraid of only one, so that in my free time, longing, pain and emptiness did not fall upon - as when I was widowed. The central house of art workers accepted me as members of the Council of Veterans. My nephew Vladislav Petrovich Demeter - Hormaster of the gypsy theater "Romen" organized a choreographic gypsy studio. A team called Gilori was typed from gypsy children in Moscow and Moscow Region.
Glory invited me to become a teacher, and I agreed with pleasure. Subsequently, the ensemble achieved great success - was more than once a laureate of international festivals. I not only taught others, but also studied myself. For a long time I was embarrassed by ignorance of the English language. Despite her age, she took up self -education.
