Biography B I
And the BBREVIATION OF BI is revealed as a “near fighter”, and the names of its designers Alexander Bereznyak and Alexei Isaev have nothing to do with it. When in the spring of the year, two young engineers who worked in the OKB V. Bolkhovitinov at the Moskskiye plant undertook to initiatively design an interceptor with a missile engine, they least of all thought about perpetuating their initials.
By the way, at that time the project was designated by the letter "G". Dushkin and V. Shtokolov, designed for traction to kg. Initially, for its power, they wanted to apply the pumping of the components, but to save time they accepted the displacement. As time has shown, such a decision was erroneous for reasons that would be lit below. But then, even before the start of the war, the designers enthusiastically compiled the plane.
The “G” project was a normal low plan of a whole -driven structure with a fuselage type of semimonkok. In the nasal compartment there were two shvak guns with an ammunition of 45 shells on the barrel, under them two tanks with combustible kerosene and five cylinders with compressed air. A steel armor -highway 5.5 mm thick separated from the pilot’s cabin. Behind the inclined armored carrier of the chair, five large tanks with an oxidizing agent were placed - nitrogen acid and air cylinders of the amenization system.
The separators and filters of the kerosene and acidic systems were grouped in a separate block in the tail of the fuselage. This version of the aircraft was accepted as the main one. Further development was headed by I. Florov, who went to the OKB after all the work on the fighter-beating fighter was discontinued and his own KB was dissolved. In the creation of the appearance of an airplane, which later went down in history under the designation of BI, this person belongs to perhaps the most important role.
Much that was previously developed by V. Bolkhovitinov’s employees, Ivan Fedorovich had to redo it - starting from the contours of the “G” in a sketch project and ending with the placement of equipment. The engine was “late” to him, and therefore the test pilot Boris Kudrin had to take off in tow in the glider in the glider, the main aerodynamic characteristics were removed, which showed that there would be no surprises in the passive area of the flight.
For this reason, the plane was installed on the aircraft only by the spring of the GO. This event was perfectly described in the book “Rockets and People” by B. Chertok - a direct participant in those events, and therefore it makes sense to dwell here only on some technical details of the first flights that remained behind the line of memories. It was a success! Grigory Bakhchyndi perfectly completed the flight task.
A few days later, the pilot was summoned to Moscow to the People’s Commissariat to participate in the layout commission, which approved the sketch design and the missile fighter’s model “”, which, by the name of A. Kostikov, received the designation of the engine’s thrust was adjusted for the maximum value of the kg. The test pilot perfectly completed the flight and landed exactly at the landing “T”.
By the beginning of March, the car after repair was prepared for continuing the tests. The total flight duration was 6 minutes. The engine worked 80 s. No less successfully passed on March 14 and the fifth flight. On this, the life of the “understudy” ended because his acid tanks flowed. On it, Bakhchyngji made the first NOTET, which, as a result of all flights on the BI appa, turned out to be the sixth.
The take -off mass of the "triple" was complete, the engine's thrust was the largest. The pilot performed impeccably and this flight. It remained to check the behavior of the machine at higher speeds. At a second flight at a height m, the plane suddenly lowered his nose and entered a dive at an angle of 45 - 50 degrees. This happened on March 27 of the year.
To cool the bolt mechanisms of the guns, a small air intake was placed between their trunks. B. Kudrin flew on this plane, but he did not drive the guns. In general, no firing was carried out at the BI on Earth or in the air.
Starting from the middle of the year in parallel with the tests of the experimental aircraft of BI at the A. Moskalev factory, in great secrecy, the release of the military series of Bi-SS aircraft was deployed. From the experienced “four”, serial samples were distinguished by a suspended cassette with 10 caliber bombs of more than 2 kg, which had an impressive slaughter force. The bomb housing was made of termite magnesium alloys, a new type of explosive was used.
After the death of the city of Bakhchyngian, Bu-SS built-in aircraft were destroyed. On this, the first stage of flight research of BI aircraft has ended. In the produced flights, the cars were tested with D-1A engines, with the exception of the very first, the “BI PLAY”, with a weight imitator. Isaev, one of the designers of the BI aircraft in the year. Having sorted out the reason for the frequent burning of the camera of the DURD Dushkin, Isaev came to the conclusion that the displacement feed did not provide constant traction in any area of the flight.
The thrust after the launch increased sharply and after reaching the peak value, it also fell sharply. Not designed for such a temperature cast, the HRC camera, of course, burned out. This would not have happened with the pump supply of components that provide traction stabilization. But nothing was impossible to change, and the mistake of the designers actually mossed their own brainchild.
BI of an experimental fighter has become a purely experimental machine for studying the propulsive qualities of new missile and jet engines. During Kudrin’s flights, it was not possible to achieve the simultaneous start of the engines after disconnecting from the Pe-2 tow, and the experiments were discontinued. On this copy, as well as on all the remaining cars after abandoning the engine L.
Dushkin, the weapons were not installed, but was replaced by weight imitators. All of them differed from the first batch of BI aircraft with an enlarged rotation steering wheel and a reduced area of sub -fake falsille. This machine was brought in full compliance with the "seven": the imitators of the cleaned skis pressed to the body and the wing of the wing with the corps removed from the "seven" were installed.
Under the fuselage, imitators of the fairings of arc smelter devices of the LRD A. Isaev RD-1 were attached and the tail of the tail fairing was removed. In total, 12 flights were held on the new “six”. Traces of the eighth BI car in the archives were not found. Dushkin, 2 flights with an RD-1 engine of A. Isaev and 3 flights per PVR. G. Bakhchyndzhi, K. Gruzdev, B.
Kudrin and M. took part in the tests.
