Lida Vashkevich biography briefly

In Grodno, occupied by the Nazis for the first time the months of the war, the communist underground acted. One of the groups was led by Lida Vashkevich's father. Contact underground, partisans came to him, and each time the daughter of commander Lida was on duty at the house. From the side it looked like she played. But in fact, the girl peered, listened to whether the police or patrol was approaching, and, if necessary, gave a sign to her father.

With caution, so as not to arouse suspicion, she mined paper for leaflets, buying up a pair of leaves in different stores, often with the help of her friends. Delivered to the agreed place. And the next day, the whole city read the words of truth about the victories of the Red Army near Moscow, Stalingrad. Warned about the raids. I went by train from the station to the station to pass important messages to the partisans, underground.

She carried the explosives past the fascist posts in that very black bag, falling asleep to the top with corners, trying not to bend from severity so as not to arouse suspicion. And each time with a risk to life, which she knew about, but she went and completed the tasks of the partisans and underground, because it was not possible for adults to do this, too remarkable. And because she wanted and fought with the Nazis for the freedom of her homeland and no one could forbid her, only death could stop her.

The facts are known about the most severe battles on Grodno land in June, about the operation "Bagration" in the summer, which brought deliverance from the Nazis. But between these dates there was an almost month of occupation, about which many have quite scarce knowledge. Casually about this is also stated in history textbooks. But there are archives that they store facts.

The Germans led their document management with their inherent pedantry, therefore, a large number of primary sources have been preserved. And they testify that Grodno, the Grodno district, divided by the Nazis, first by 12, and then by 18 volosts, were included in East Prussia, that is, they were attached to the third Reich. For the first time, the months of occupation by the Nazis were erased from the cards of the names of settlements: Grodno was renamed Garten, go to Waldfriden, twigs - to Birkenfeld, lakes - in Zeeort, Porechye - in Waldhofen, Kamenka - in Waldvizen ...

And the inhabitants to become with them? Here is an excerpt from German documents: “The following number of Russian women live in Grodno district: unmarried without children - with one child -, with two - 93, with three - 38, with four - women living in Grodno are not included. From this document it becomes clear from what the Nazis over civilians atrocity, when, even a hint of communication with the partisans arose, not to mention the monstrous revenge for the death of any of the invaders or their accomplices.

For 37 months of occupation, the Nazis literally dotted the Grodno district by the mass graves of civilians. And we must always remember that tragic time, as we pay tribute to the deepest respect for the Red Army soldiers, partisans and underground workers, rear workers, all those whose courage, heroism and perseverance allowed to defeat a cruel and strong enemy. In peacetime.
